The beginning of another year often inspires folks to look at their lives and choose to make resolutions to change. While we could resolve to make a change any time, it seems easier when others are doing it too…providing us with that cozy feeling of belonging!
New Year’s or not, it’s always a great time to reassess and revisit that classic Reality Therapy question, “What do I want?”
Since I’ve started writing these columns, people have asked, “Where can I find a column that I missed?” or, “I think those columns would be helpful for my friend/mother/brother, but they live far away. How can they get a copy?”
So, last year, right around New Year’s, I recognized that one thing I wanted was to create an archive of these columns.
Well, I am pleased to tell you that I have finally managed to satisfy that “want”! These columns are now on a blog (website), which you can find on the internet at this address: www.realitycheck.focusonclarity.com
Now, if you ever want to reread a column, or pass one along to someone who might find it helpful, there’s a place to find it!
I’d like to say that it’s taken me so long to fulfill this want because I waited until it was absolutely perfect before mentioning it. Yes, I’d like to say that, but it wouldn’t be true. There’s still room for improvement. However, I did include some features in the blog that I hope you’ll find useful, which I’ll describe below:
- The “Home” page shows the first paragraph or so of the ten most recent columns. Click on any title to read the whole column.
- The “Site Map” page lists the column categories, such as “Choosing Behaviour,” “Learning,” “Relationships,” “Workplace,” and of course, “Marriage.” Under each category are the titles columns related to that category. So, for example, if you have the urge to reread the column titled, “If the cat would only change,” you can find it in the site map, click on the title, and away you go!
- The “Overview” page is a collection of nine introductory articles. If you want to introduce someone to the reality therapy approach, this is a good place to suggest that they start reading.
- You can fill out the “sign up” form if you’d like to be notified by email when I post new columns.
- Unlike many blogs, I have no advertising and no pop-ups.
One of the great features of any blog is the opportunity for readers to add their comments. I invite you to comment on the columns, to add your own anecdotes and questions, or to suggest story ideas. It’s through your contributions that the blog can become a vibrant, helpful resource. It is also through your comments and questions that I learn and improve.
The slogan of the Glasser Institute is, “Teach the world choice theory;” this is my contribution toward that end.
This blog is the completion of one small thing that I wanted last year. What do you want? A companion? To feel successful? To have some fun? More freedom? You are always welcome to let me know
